Description:
One and a half miles west of the Glenshee Chairlift Complex and situated in a grassy hollow 750 metres above sea level (2,460 feet) is Loch Vrotachan, which we lease on a long term basis from Invercauld Estate.
Though stocked at various times in the past (the last time over 10 years ago) we have gradually seen a return to a truly wild brown loch.
The loch holds a good head of brown trout up to 2lbs in weight. Very difficult to catch though but if you have luck, skill and the fish start rising what a great day you can have.
The loch is fed from springs from limestone schists and has a high ph. This means lots of insect life and larger than normal trout, but very clear water makes for very wary trout.
There is a well stoked hut with a gas cooker and two bunk beds (supply your own sleeping bag etc.). An overnight stay during the long days of summer is one of our special treats for members. Members do not have to book to fish the loch but if they wish to stay overnight they MUST book the hut. Booking the hut is done through Norman Clements (contact details above) where the key details of the fishing and help and advice will be freely available.
The loch is a high level loch and even in summer bad weather can appear from nowhere. BE PREPARED with good clothing and strong footwear.

CARS MUST BE PARKED IN THE GLENSHEE CAR PARK AND ANGLERS MUST WALK TO THE LOCH. NO VEHICLES ON ROUGH ROADS OR TO THE LOCHSIDE.

Fishing is by fly only, a bag limit of four trout per rod per day, traditionally loch flies work well but be adventurous, you never know.

MAKE A RETURN OF YOUR DAY EVEN IF NO FISH ARE CAUGHT.

PLEASE TAKE ALL RUBBISH HOME AFTER EVERY VISIT.
